Acu-Taping and Kinesio Taping
Acu-Taping (or Kinesio Taping) is a gentle treatment method used to relieve acute and chronic pain. The elastic tape bandage is applied along the painful area. The idea for this method originates from principles of traditional Chinese medicine (acupuncture) and manual medicine.
Soothing Pain Gently – Quick and Effective for Chronic Pain
The elastic tape follows every movement of the affected body part. This causes continuous movement of the hypodermis and the skin attached to the tape. The effect is similar to lymphatic drainage or connective tissue massage. The energy flow through the meridians (energy channels) is stimulated and supports the body’s self-healing process.
Acu-Taping has become very popular and is widely used in sports medicine, as it can be applied both in professional and recreational sports. Its use may not only be therapeutic but also preventive.
Acu-Taping can help relieve pain in joints and tendons, neck, back and lower back pain, strains and headaches, as well as menstrual pain, tinnitus, scar correction, pregnancy discomfort and cellulite.
Durability of the Tape
Acute pain or complaints are usually treated with a (mostly blue) tape for about 24 hours. Further treatment is carried out with a red or skin-coloured tape. Chronic complaints are treated for about 5–8 weeks. The tape is replaced every 5–7 days. To prevent further discomfort, the tape remains in place during exercise.

Acu-Taping Can Influence
- regulation of muscle tone (relaxing or toning)
- regulation of psychovegetative disorders
- immunomodulation
- inhibition of inflammation
- reduction of swelling (supporting lymphatic flow)
- support of blood circulation
