Paediatric orthopaedics

Paediatric orthopaedics identifies, diagnoses and treats deformities, growth disturbances, diseases and injuries to the skeletal locomotor organs. The paediatric orthopaedist decides when and where preventive measures are necessary, when an operation may be required and which of the abnormalities will probably correct themselves during the course of development. Treatment of bones that are still growing has to be extremely carefully evaluated and observed over a long period.

Paediatric orthopaedics

Paediatric orthopaedics is one of our priorities and is supervised by Dr. med. Surminski who has many years of experience both as a practitioner and with scientific work in this field.

We treat all types of congenital and acquired diseases and injuries to the skeletal and locomotor organs during the growth phase, in particular:

  • hip anomalies in children (e.g. dysplasia, subluxation, Perthes’ disease)
  • congenital and acquired deformities of the foot (e.g. idiopathic clubfoot, flat feet, talipes varus)
  • neuro-orthopaedic diseases (e.g. cerebral palsy, neurological systemic diseases)
  • diseases of the spine (e.g. scoliosis, postural defects)

We apply clinical diagnostics, the specific application of child-appropriate X-ray diagnostics and gait pattern analysis and, above all, ultrasonic examinations with a high-performance apparatus.

Kinderorthopädische Betreuung

Apart from infantile hip diagnosis after Graf and soft tissue diagnostic techniques, we also perform a special neuro-physiological examination developed by Vojta.

We cooperate closely with radiological centres in using modern cross-section imaging (MRT, CT).

We utilise all the current traditional therapeutic options, e.g. corrective and growth-influencing bandages, medication, application of orthopaedic aids and shoes (direct consultations with the treatment centre’s technician). Prior to beginning a course of treatment we describe and explain in detail all the methods that we will be employing.
