ACP therapy – for painful osteoarthritis and sports injuries
ACP (Autologous Conditioned Plasma) treatment is a modern therapy used to treat diseases of the joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles. Both degenerative conditions (caused by wear and tear) and traumatic conditions (resulting from injuries) can be treated.
For some time now, there has been an alternative to conventional therapies for treating osteoarthritis or injuries to muscles, tendons and ligaments. With the help of Autologous Conditioned Plasma (ACP), pain caused by osteoarthritis can be reduced and healing of injuries to the musculoskeletal system can be accelerated.
Platelets play a decisive role in injuries, both in stopping bleeding and supporting wound healing. This natural function is utilised and enhanced by ACP therapy within the affected tissue.
ACP in application
A small amount of blood (15 ml) is taken from a vein in the arm using a specially developed double syringe. The blood is then separated by centrifugation. This isolates the part of the blood containing the body’s own regenerative and anti-inflammatory components. This portion is then separated using the double syringe and prepared for injection into the affected area. The injected platelets release growth factors in the affected region, supporting healing and regeneration processes. The double-chamber system allows sterile blood collection and sterile injection of growth factors, reducing the risk of infection.
ACP for osteoarthritis
(damage to the articular cartilage)
Aging processes, genetic predisposition, but also repetitive strain or accidents can lead to wear of the joint cartilage. This condition is called osteoarthritis and any joint can be affected. In early stages, symptoms may include pulling sensations in the joint, morning stiffness or pain when starting movement. As the disease progresses, pain increases and everyday activities become restricted, which reduces overall quality of life.
ACP for injuries to muscles, tendons and ligaments
A common cause of injuries to the musculoskeletal system is biomechanical overloading or incorrect loading. Muscles may respond with strains or fibre tears. Tendons may develop inflammation, chronic irritation or even rupture. Ligament tears are also common. In sports injuries in particular, ACP therapy can support other treatments and contribute to faster healing.
Fields of application for sports injuries
- Fresh muscle injury
- Chronic tendinitis
- (e.g. tennis elbow, Achilles tendon, patellar tendon)
- Torn ligament (e.g. outer ligament of the ankle)
