Periradicular therapy (PRT)
In a healthy spine the spinal cord and spinal nerve root are clearly separated from the intervertebral disc.
A swollen prolapsed disc, on the other hand, presses against the spinal cord and spinal nerve root. Using computed tomography (CT) and laser-supported navigation, a threadlike needle is accurately introduced into the prolapsed disc. An anti-inflammatory substance is then injected; this leads to a reduction in the swelling of the intervertebral disc. With the simultaneous occurrence of temporary anaesthetisation, both pain and “inflammation hormones” are reduced. Due to the threadlike nature of the needle there is no danger of long-term damage to the sensitive tissue around the intervertebral disc.
